Police departments hit by ransomware virus

WCSH 6 Portland - (Maine) The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office in Maine reported that an employee inadvertently downloaded ransomware dubbed megacode, which encrypted all computer data on a shared network, affecting four towns and the county. The county paid a ransom fee of $300 to the creator of the virus which unlocked and restored the data.
