Illinois police department paid $500 ransom to hacker who disabled computer

Associated Press - (Illinois) The Midlothian police chief confirmed February 21 that the suburban Chicago police department was hacked in January by a form of the Cryptoware virus which demands a ransom be paid in order to decrypt files on a computer, rendering the files inaccessible without an encryption key.
