Northwestern Memorial apologizes for stolen laptop with patient data

Associated Press - (Illinois) Chicago-based Northwestern Memorial Healthcare notified 3,000 patients December 19 of an October 21 theft of a password-protected, unencrypted laptop that was stolen from an employee's vehicle and contained patients' personal information, including Social Security numbers. The health care system took steps to enhance security in order to prevent future breaches by encrypting all laptops and re-training staff on handling information securely.
