Illinois hospital reports data blackmail

IDG News Service- (Illinois) Clay County Hospital in Illinois notified affected patients after receiving an anonymous e-mail containing protected health information of some patients asking for a substantial payment to avoid patient data being released. Law enforcement agencies were notified and an investigation found the compromised data was limited to patients who visited the hospital on or before February 2012 and limited to name, physical address, social security numbers and date of birth.
